Crew win Supporters Shield but end season on sour note.
By Ashleigh Ignelzi, Columbus Wired
Columbus, OH- The Columbus Crew returned home Sunday evening to take on the New England Revolution. The Rev’s had a lot at stake in this match; they had to win or tie to claim the last spot to the playoffs.  The New England Revolution claimed that spot with a 1-0 victory over Columbus. The goal came from a free kick off of Jeff Larentowicz. This was Larentowicz’s first goal of the season. During the 79th minute, and from 22 yards back, Larentowicz was right point and kept the playoff hopes alive...Read More

By Dave Weissman, Columbus Wired. Photos by Dave Liggett, Columbus Wired
The Columbus Crew extended their unbeaten streak to a MLS tying record 17 games and moved into a tie for second place in the MLS Eastern Conference with a 3-1 win over Real Salt Lake. Jason Garey scored two goals and Stephen Lenhart scored the other to keep Columbus on a roll with their fourth game in a row earning at least a point...more

CONCACAF, Gold Cup (7/8/09)
by Ashleigh Ignelzi, Columbus Wired
Yesterday I attended two gold cup games at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. For a few hours Crew Stadium turned into a melting pot as fans came out to support Jamaica, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Canada. It was wonderful to see people from all different cultures supporting their team...more

Battle on the Fourth Results in Tie with DC United
By Mark Hofmann, Columbus Wired Contributor, Photos by Dave Liggett (Columbus Wired)
Columbus played to a 1- 1 draw leaving one team very disappointed with outcome. Fortunately, it is D.C. United’s team that feels like they left two points on the pitch, not The Crew...more

Olay! Crew slays Reds Bulls 1–0
By Mark Hofmann, Columbus Wired Contributor,  Photos by Dave Liggett and Joel Torres
Olay, Olay Olay Olay, Olay the Crew slay the New York Reds Bulls 1 – 0. The Nordecke chant is not quite the same as a traditional Bullfight crowd cheer when they yell out a single group Olay, but the win against the Red Bulls was as inevitable as a Matador besting a bull...more

The roar heard at Crew Stadium: Columbus Crew stage a memorial comeback, down Chivas USA, 2 – 1
By Mark Hofmann, Columbus Wired Contributor, Photos by Dave Liggett (Columbus Wired)
The roar heard Sunday afternoon coming from 12,658 fans at Crew Stadium was not for a long put sunk by Tiger Woods. It was a group hooray from the lucky fans that had come out and witnessed their defending MLS Champs (The Crew) over come an early deficit to win 2 – 1 and drum Chivas USA out of town...more

Crew Win the Game but Lose the Battle (5/28/09)
By Mark Hofmann, Columbus Wired Contributor, Photos by Dave Liggett (Columbus Wired)
The Crew beat the San Jose Earthquakes 2 -1 to extend their home unbeaten streak to 16.  However “Soccer is a funny sport, you play not your best game but you win the game you get 3 points” were Coach Warzycha words immediately following the game.  “We have played better in previous games and we just get one point”, he went on to explain in what almost seemed like an apology for coming out on top in the game...more

Crew hold of Wizards to earn first victory of the season. (5/9/09)
By Mark Hofmann, Columbus Wired Contributor, Photos by Dave Liggett and Joel Torres (Columbus Wired)
Except for the season opener in Houston, Frankie Hejduk has not been in the Crew line-up this season. He missed the last six matches due to national team qualifier commitments and then an injury he sustained playing with the national team. Saturday night, he returned to the lineup to help the Crew beat the Kansas City Wizards 3-2 for their first victory of the season...more

Promising start groundhogs Crew in a 2 -2 tie (4/25/09)
By Mark Hofmann, Columbus Wired Contributor, Photos by Joel Torres and Dave Liggett (Columbus Wired)
For the third time in as many home games the Crew seized an early lead only to relinquish it and settle for a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire in front of over 16,000 fans at Crew Stadium. They can still say they are undefeated at home but it is getting harder to swagger when proclaiming the fact...more.

(MLS SOCCER) Late Colorado Goal Spoils Christmas for Crew
By Mark Hofmann, Columbus Wired Contributor, Photos by Dave Liggett (Columbus Wired)
No the holidays are not mixed up this year for the hardest working team in soccer. Bunny you should think that! But to the Crew, who are still looking for their first win of the season, it might feel like they were. Or maybe it was just the story of, “The Conor Casey who stole Christmas.” (1 - 1 Draw).  For Coach Warzycha “The Santa” of the story, the disappointment to the Crew and fans might remind him of the faces of kids that find coal (1 point) in their stockings, even after being good all last year...more

(MLS) Crew Limps Home from Road Trip
By Mark Hofmann, Columbus Wired Contributor
The Crew continues, on from last season, record breaking accomplishments to start the 2009 season. Unfortunately the 0 wins, 2 ties, and 2 loses sets a worst start record for a defending MLS Champion, lowering the bar from the 3 ties and 1 lose starting records set by the 2003 LA Galaxy and matched by the 2008 Houston Dynamo’s.  After a late own - goal allowed Toronto a draw, ten days ago, the Crew left town hoping to carry the positives from that home opening match. The Thursday match in Sandy, Utah was a cold welcoming to the Crew from Real Salt Lake. ..more

(MLS Soccer) Own Goal Costs Crew in Home Opener
By Mark Hofmann, Columbus Wired Contributor, Photos by Dave Liggett (Columbus Wired)
The Crew left two on the pitch for the second time in as many games. The two left behind refers to points not people. However, watching Goalkeeper Will Hesmer storm off the field and straight to the Crew’s locker room as soon as the game over whistle was sounded gave me no indication it was not a special operations mission that had gone terribly wrong as Toronto left with a 1-1 tie in the Crew's home opener...more

(MLS) Don The Hard Hats - Crew Prepare To Defend Cup
By Mark Hoffmann, Columbus Wired Contributor, Photos by Dave Liggett (Columbus Wired)
It is pleasing to look back to the Crew’s 2008 magical season. Their charmed campaign saw the team sprint out of the gate and take six of their first seven contests. Yes, they then stumbled slightly, but they regained their early season composure and form to outpace all competitors to garner the Supporters Shield en route to capturing the MLS Champions Cup...more
