On Friday Aug 9 the Dave Mathews tribute band, Tripping Billies,
will invade the Newport Music Hall for a celebration of the Dave
Mathews Band music.
Coming on the heals of a
well-received show in
April, the Tripping Billies
return to the city lead singer Brandon DePaul referred to as a
second home.
"I was ecstatic at the response from the last show. The Newport
Music Hall is
a great venue and we were very appreciative of the response from the
fans," DePaul said. "Columbus is one of the towns that have
embraced the Tripping Billies and the sound of Dave Mathews."
He said the fans are a lot like the members of the band, "We are
all there to play, hear and jam out to the sounds of Dave Mathews."
The Tripping Billies are looking to have a good time with their
fans and want
everyone to leave feeling like the show was a party.
They also hope
the fans leave with an appreciation for the original songs the band
adds to the set.
Admittedly a slow process, the Tripping Billies ultimate goal is to
become a
band that puts out all original music.
"We want to have our own voice," DePaul said. "We don t want people
saying
those guys sound exactly like Dave Mathews. But we do want the
influence to be there. "
The influence will be on display in full view on Friday night as the
Tripping
Billies bring their version of Dave Mathews to the Newport Music
Hall.
The band wants
the fans to go away from the show knowing the love and respect
Tripping Billies has for
Dave Mathews music.
"But mostly, we want them to walk away waiting for us to come back,"
DePaul
said.
Judging by the previous show and the feedback posted on the band s
website,
Columbus fans already are.
The Newport Doors open at 8. Tickets are $6.50 in advance and $8.50
the day of
the show.
