MLS SOCCER: Crew
defeats David Beckam and LA Galaxy 1-0, on way to capturing top
spot in playoffs (10/4/08)
by Tom Holdren, Photos by Dave Weissman
For the sellout crowd at Crew Stadium anticipation was
intoxicating. For two years Crew fans have been awaiting
international superstar David Beckham. Saturday night Columbus
got its wish and as a bonus picked up a 1-0 win, silencing
L.A.'s potent scoring trio of Beckham, Edson Buddle (13 goals),
and Landon Donovan; MLS goal leader netting 19 in 21 games. ...more
NHL PRE-SEASON: Jackets look
like different team in 5-2 loss to Buffalo (10/2/08)
By Dave Seaman, Columbus Wired
As training camp comes to an end this weekend, Columbus Blue
Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock is using the back-to-back games at
Nationwide Arena to asses who is going to make the final cut.
The coach plans to reduce the roster to 25 or 26 players before
the team’s final exhibition game in Toronto on Sunday. The final
cuts will come Monday. His job became more challenging as the
Jackets fell to Buffalo 5-2 Thursday night...more
NHL PRE-SEASON: Jackets pound
Hawks 7-1 in pre-season game
(9/29/08)
By Dave Seaman, Columbus Wired
A big preseason victory proved to be costly as the Columbus Blue
Jackets defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 7-1 in Nationwide Arena
Monday night. With a four-goal lead, new Jacket Raffi Torres
fought Hawks’ Ben Eager and went down hard on his right
shoulder, separating it and putting him out six weeks...more
Buckeyes
begin Big-10 season with 34-21 win over Minnesota
The Buckeyes began the Big-10 season with a home game
against the Minnesota Gophers, who were coming in with a record
of 4-0 in non-conference games. OSU freshman Terrelle Pryer
threw for 1 TD and ran for two more to lead his team past the
Gophers 34-21. Brian Robiskie caught two TD passes, including
one from Sr. QB Todd Boeckman. The defense created two timely
interceptions by Donald Washington and running back Chris
'Beanie' Wells also made his first start since the Youngstown
State game and ran well, gaining over 100 yards...more

Five Simple Ways to Cut Back
on Costs This Holiday Season
It should come as no surprise to most that economists are
predicting significantly less spending this holiday season than
in previous years. Facing growing financial concerns, a lack of
confidence in the economy, and rising food and fuel costs, many
shoppers will be much more conservative with their holiday
spending. But there is good news that should turn that “Bah
Humbug” attitude around. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways a
savvy shopper can avoid the squeeze to ensure that the “season
of giving” remains just as it is...more
FADD

regardless of cost. The overwhelming desire for an immediate
solution to a financial problem. These are the most common of
symptoms. Let's look at them one at a time...more

Ohio
State's Terrelle Pryor Tosses 4 TD's in 28-10 Win Over Troy
(9/20/08)
Ohio State returned home after a potentially devastating loss to
USC and shook off the rust with a 28-10 win over Troy (Alabama)
University. Terrelle Pryor started the game and threw for a
freshman record 4 touchdown passes. The defense allowed the
high powered Trojan offense to move up and down the field (over
300 yards), but only allowed one TD run and a field goal.
Special teams was instrumental with two punts by A.J. Trapasso
to pin Troy within their own 5 yard line. Brian Robiskie caught
one TD pass, Brian Hartline pulled down two TD's and another was
caught by Rory Nichol, who has not caught a TD pass in two

Bulls 3-1
(9/18/08)
by Tom Holdren, Columbus Wired Contributor
The Columbus Crew started the opening half against the New York

the Crew bounced back being down 1-0, winning 3-1 to solidify

OSU FOOTBALL: OHIO
STATE 26, OHIO UNIVERSITY 12
(9/6/08)
The Buckeyes have never lost to an in-state rival. In fact,
the last time Ohio State faced Ohio University in 1999 it was a
runaway victory. But that was the Bobcats of old. The 2008
version gave the Buckeyes a scare, at one point leading 12-6
before OSU rallied to pull out a 26-14 win heading to Southern
California next week to face the mighty Trojans. The offense
once again looked so-so while the defense allowed Ohio
University over 100 yards rushing, but created four turnovers on
interceptions, leading to a field goal and a rushing TD....MORE

 | The Ten-Minute Attitude

You make breakfast. You get the kids ready. You hop in a
shower. You take them to school. You go grocery shopping.
You run sixteen errands before they come home, at which time
you take them to soccer practice, dance class, and a

house. You check their homework and tuck them in bed. And by
the time you’re done with all this, pretty much all you want
to do is to crawl into bed and sleep for the next twelve
hours, but you can’t, because tomorrow morning you have to
do it all again. Sound about right? ...more |
